A Lovely Foundation offers programs designed to nurture voice, creativity, and sisterhood at every stage of a woman's journey. From emerging high school writers to established women seeking creative community, we create intentional spaces where women of color can develop their craft, share their stories, and support one another.
The Lovely Legacy: The Voice Within™
Launching Winter 2025
The Lovely Legacy: The Voice Within™ is our signature outreach and mentoring initiative for high school girls of color from underserved communities. Through creative writing workshops, mentorship connections, and community building, we help young women discover their voices as writers and storytellers before the world tells them otherwise.
Program Structure
Our inaugural cohort will serve 30 emerging young women writers in high school through quarterly creative writing workshops. Each 2-hour session explores different genres—poetry, essays, articles, short stories, & speechwriting—providing both technical instruction and space for authentic self-expression.
Participants build community with fellow young writers while receiving guidance from accomplished women authors, educators, and storytellers who share their journeys with honesty and care.
Legacy Experiences
As funding grows, select participants will be invited to join us for extended retreat experiences—multi-day immersive gatherings where students can dedicate focused time to their writing, work closely with visiting authors, and experience what it means to be part of a literary community.
These retreats honor who young women are and who they're becoming—offering space to rest, create, and dream without limitation.
Program Access
The Lovely Legacy: The Voice Within™ is completely free for all participants. Students are identified through teacher nominations from partner schools in underserved communities. The program is funded by the foundation and donors who understand that every confident woman once needed someone to believe in her first.
This is our way of becoming that someone.
The Lovely Community
A free virtual sanctuary for women of color
The Lovely Community is our digital gathering space where women of color connect, share, and support one another through creative sisterhood. This virtual sanctuary provides ongoing community for women seeking encouragement, inspiration, and connection with others on similar creative journeys.
Through online gatherings, writing circles, and shared resources, members find support and accountability as they develop their voices and pursue their creative work.
Membership is free and open to all women of color.
